What's New At FENCE

Spring, 2008

Stream Restoration: Work is nearly complete on our previously announced project to restore the ecological health of Blockhouse Creek, which runs through our property from west to east. Crews under the management of environmental engineering firm Baker Engineering will be working along the stream on the "nature side" of FENCE, to the east of Hunting Country Road. At left, a portion of the stream opposite the Kidd Barn recently completed. The entire project is due for completion by the end of May. The project is funded with a North Carolina Ecological Enhancement Fund grant. Note to riders and hikers: because of potentially dangerous conditions while construction occurs, we recommend avoiding trails along the stream between Hunting Country Road and the eastern end of the property until further notice.

TROT, our therapeutic horseback riding program, is in full swing for the spring season, with classes continuing through early June. At left, Courtney Wilson completes a teaching game task aboard equine helper Allen. TROT has been designated as the beneficiary of a raffle for a brand new Toulouse-Padjette saddle (at right) donated by Premier Equine Insurance. Tickets are just $10 and are available at the downtown Tryon offices of Dr. Joseph Picone, at The Farmhouse in Landrum, or at FENCE. The drawing will be held on May 3rd.
